The next stop on the Iowa competition circuit will be in Creston, Iowa this weekend for the Southwest Iowa Pro Balloon Race. The event is celebrating its 34th year this weekend, and all the best Midwest pilots will be coming to town from Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. Typical Southwest Iowa Balloon Race weather genearlly offers pilots some sporty (quick) winds with some steering. The event will continue to utilize the Creston airport facilities which should generate some unusual task calling. Even in the midst of a difficult economy organizers have secured enough support to host 60 pilots and crews. It's a testament to Creston's local businesses who have found a way to keep the event going for so many years. The Creston community festival will feature a 2 hour parade in addition to the balloon race and offers a marching band competition for Southwest Iowa's schools. Check back throughout the weekend for updates.
